Witt's Crypto Deal-Making Authority in Question as Senate Tussles Over CLARITY Act
The White House crypto adviser, Patrick Witt, is navigating talks with Senate Democrats on ethics language for the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act (CLARITY Act), according to a report by Politico.
Democrats are pushing for restrictions that would bar federal officials from sponsoring or endorsing digital assets, which could impact President Trump's crypto ventures, including the Official Trump memecoin and World Liberty Financial (WLFI).
The negotiations have emerged as a central sticking point in talks surrounding the crypto market-structure legislation.
Some lawmakers question whether Witt has the authority to finalize an agreement without President Trump's direct approval. 'I don't think he has any authority to make a deal,' said Sen. John Kennedy (R-La.).
