Crypto Crime on the Rise: France Cracks Down and Tether Commits $150M

The French government has taken steps to combat cryptocurrency kidnappings, which have become a significant concern in the country. According to recent figures, there were 41 crypto-related kidnappings in France in 2026, with an incident occurring roughly every two and a half days on average.

As part of its efforts to protect investors, the French government has introduced a dedicated platform to reduce so-called 'wrench attacks,' where criminals use force to access digital assets. The initiative has seen strong uptake, with thousands of users reportedly signing up.
