Senators Urge Trump to Reject Bankman-Fried Pardon Request
US Senators Cynthia Lummis and Ruben Gallego have introduced legislation urging President Donald Trump to reject FTX co-founder Sam Bankman-Fried's request for a pardon. The resolution, set to be introduced on Wednesday, will seek unanimous consent from all senators to quickly pass the non-binding measure.
Bankman-Fried was convicted of orchestrating a $10 billion fraud at FTX, a crypto exchange he founded. He lost an appeal to overturn his conviction last week and is currently serving a 25-year prison sentence.
The senators argue that Bankman-Fried's actions were a significant financial fraud in American history, and victims are still waiting to be made whole. They reject any characterization of the FTX prosecution as 'lawfare' and affirm the integrity of the federal criminal justice process that produced Bankman-Fried's conviction.
Gallego called Bankman-Fried 'a criminal who took advantage of millions of Americans and stole their savings.' He has shown no remorse for his crimes, according to Gallego, and instead claims he is a victim of 'lawfare.'
