Banks Unite on Blockchain Ledger for Cross-Border Settlement
SWIFT has brought together 17 leading banks from across six continents to launch a blockchain ledger, natively integrated with Chainlink's CCIP. This pilot program aims to enable 7×24 nonstop tokenized cross-border settlement, breaking traditional banking hours limitations.
The participating institutions include Citigroup, HSBC, UBS, BNY Mellon, DBS, Mitsubishi UFJ, and others. Built on an EVM-compatible Hyperledger Besu foundation, the ledger relies on CCIP to connect private bank chains with public networks.
This deployment marks the formal elevation of CCIP to an institution-grade cross-chain interoperability infrastructure for traditional finance, connecting more than 11,500 financial institutions worldwide through SWIFT.
