Quantum Blockchain Technologies Resumes Research Programme for Quantum Computing
Quantum Blockchain Technologies (QBT) has announced the restart of its key research programme on quantum computing for Bitcoin mining. The programme was paused in 2023 due to limitations in available quantum computers, but QBT has now developed an internal implementation of the SHA-256 algorithm, a cryptographic hashing function used in Bitcoin mining.
This internal implementation is being used as part of an independent benchmarking framework, which will help QBT monitor the development of quantum hardware and assess relevant quantum algorithms. The company's CEO, Francesco Gardin, noted that while quantum computing is not yet ready for practical deployment in Bitcoin mining, QBT has a strong foundation for future development.
QBT's research programme is focused on developing tools and techniques to improve Bitcoin mining efficiency using quantum computing. The company believes that this technology will significantly outperform existing market practices and help drive innovation in the blockchain sector.
