Bitcoin Community Divided Over BIP-110 Proposal to Restrict Non-Financial Data
A long-standing debate has resurfaced within the Bitcoin community over a proposal to limit non-financial data on the blockchain. At the center of this controversy is David Bailey, who accuses developer Luke Dashjr of introducing a blacklist in the 2014 Gentoo Bitcoin software that blocked gambling transactions.
Dashjr now advocates for BIP-110, which aims to restrict non-financial data such as images and Ordinals inscriptions on the blockchain. He claims this measure will help reduce spam and improve the overall health of the network.
However, despite his efforts to promote the proposal, miner support remains low at under 1%. In response, Bitcoin Knots nodes have announced plans to reject blocks without BIP-110 signaling from August, sparking concerns about a potential chain split and governance conflicts.
