Senate Committee Advances Crypto Regulation Bill in Landmark Move
The US Senate Banking Committee has made significant progress in advancing the Clarity Act, a bill that seeks to regulate cryptocurrencies. The committee voted to move the bill forward with support from both Republican and Democratic senators, marking a major milestone for digital assets.
According to sources, the bill aims to provide clarity on regulatory jurisdiction over the sector, which has been a contentious issue in recent years. It would define when crypto tokens are securities, commodities or otherwise, giving the industry much-needed legal certainty.
Despite the progress made, some Democrats have expressed concerns about the bill's anti-money laundering provisions, arguing that they are too weak. They also want to bar political officials from profiting from crypto ventures.
