Crypto Whale Loses $50M in DeFi Slippage Incident
A recent DeFi incident has highlighted the risks associated with large-scale asset swaps in decentralized finance. On March 16, 2026, a crypto whale attempted to swap $50.4 million in assets on the Aave platform via CoW Swap.
The swap was intended to exchange AETHUSDT for AAVE tokens, but due to high slippage, the user received only 327 AAVE tokens worth approximately $36,000 - a loss of nearly $50 million.
Investigation into the incident revealed that the user had ignored repeated warnings about massive slippage and accepted the trade without fully understanding its implications. The platform's interface did display multiple high-slippage warnings, but the user failed to heed these alerts.
