Recently, The Open Network (TON) announced the release of Catchain 2.0, a significant update aimed at enhancing the performance and usability of its blockchain. One of the key features of this upgrade is the reduction of block times to 400 milliseconds, which is expected to significantly improve the settlement speed for both payments and trades.
This upgrade is designed to push settlement speeds towards real-time, enabling decentralized applications (dApps) to run with performance closer to traditional apps. The faster settlement time will reduce latency between transaction submission and confirmation, a critical factor for payment rails and DeFi applications that rely on quick settlement to minimize front-running and slippage.
TON's announcement also stated that the upgrade strengthens its position as a platform aiming to blend messaging with on-chain functionality. This is reflected in its ongoing integration with Telegram, which enables users to send TON-enabled crypto payments within chats, bridging everyday communication and on-chain activity.
