Chinese AI Model Kimi K3 Shakes Crypto Markets with Efficiency Promise

A Chinese AI firm named Moonshot AI has released a new open-weight model called Kimi K3, which outperformed OpenAI and Anthropic's models in a widely watched frontend coding benchmark.

Kimi K3 scored 1,679 points, beating Anthropic's Claude Fable 5 (1,631) and OpenAI's GPT-5.6 (1,618).

The model has 2.8 trillion parameters and uses a mixture-of-experts design, which only activates part of its architecture per task.

The release of Kimi K3 rattled markets by raising the possibility that cutting-edge AI doesn't have to be scarce or expensive.

Bitcoin has been trading in close step with semiconductor stocks due to its growing ties to the AI investment cycle, and listed Bitcoin miners that have shifted capacity toward AI and high-performance computing are exposed.
