Coinbase Expands US Market Reach with Regulated Crypto Options and Futures
Coinbase has made a significant step into regulated US markets by launching a new futures commission merchant. The platform will provide institutional clients with access to global crypto options and perpetual futures markets, marking a major development in the US derivatives market.
The move follows guidance from the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) that allows a regulated futures commission merchant to connect US clients with global crypto derivatives liquidity. This regulatory approval has paved the way for Coinbase's expansion into the US derivatives market.
Coinbase acquired Deribit, a leading crypto options exchange, in August 2025 as part of its expansion into crypto derivatives. The company holds around $31 billion in Bitcoin options open interest, according to CoinGlass data.
