Sanders Vows to Take On Crypto Ahead of 2026 Elections
U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders has renewed his criticism of the crypto industry ahead of the 2026 elections, grouping it alongside other well-funded interests in a campaign event supporting Minnesota Lieutenant Governor Peggy Flanagan's Senate bid.
Sanders' July 21 statement on X criticized the influence of large political donors and corporate interests in elections, framing crypto as one of several well-funded groups that Flanagan and her supporters would oppose.
The comments came as crypto-backed political groups continue to spend heavily ahead of the 2026 midterm elections, with Public Citizen estimating that the industry had contributed around $189 million by late June.
Fairshake and its affiliated groups have been major sources of industry funding, with a combined total of over $8 million deployed in several closely watched congressional primaries this year alone.
