Strategy Acquires Over 3,200 Bitcoin for $255 Million, Pushes Total Holdings to 818,000
Michael Saylor's Strategy has made another significant move in its long-term bet on Bitcoin, acquiring an additional 3,273 coins for $255 million. This purchase brings the company's total holdings to over 818,000 BTC, solidifying its position as one of the largest public holders of the cryptocurrency.
The acquisition was funded through the sale of MSTR stock, a departure from previous methods where Strategy would tap into its perpetual preferred security (STRC). The sale raised the necessary funds for the purchase, which was completed at an average price of $77,906 per Bitcoin.
Strategy's total investment in Bitcoin now stands at approximately $61.8 billion, with a cost basis of around $75,537 per coin. The company's holdings are valued at roughly $63.6 billion as of the latest market data, reflecting the ongoing price surge that has pushed Bitcoin above $77,000.
While Strategy remains the largest single public Bitcoin holder, its 818,334 BTC narrowly edges out BlackRock, which reportedly holds 812,300 BTC on behalf of its clients. However, the company still trails the combined holdings of crypto fund issuers, which collectively control around 1.32 million BTC.
