Human Error Trumps Hacking as Top Cause of Crypto Access Loss
A study conducted by Oobit has shed light on the primary causes of crypto access loss, revealing that human error is a far greater threat than hacking. According to the study, 35% of cryptocurrency holders have lost access to their wallets or accounts due to a range of factors, including forgotten passwords and lost seed phrases.
The research found that 33% of respondents experienced login failures, while 21% lost their seed phrases and 20% encountered difficulties with two-factor authentication. External factors such as platform bankruptcies also contributed to access losses, accounting for 16% of incidents.
Notably, the study exposed a significant education gap, with 30% of respondents who suffered permanent losses not realizing that their assets could be lost permanently until it happened. The financial impact of these incidents can be severe, with over 1 in 10 users reporting losses exceeding $5,000.
