Shipping Giant Enters Blockchain with Multi-Billion-Dollar Asset Class
Ethra Ship has launched a blockchain protocol to tokenise investments in operating maritime shipping assets.
The platform, which is supported by Ethra Invest, allows users and institutional investors to access an asset class that typically involves vessels costing between $30 million and $120 million.
The company's CEO Saeed Al-Marri said that 'tokenization only works when there is a real business underneath it', citing the four years of vessel operations and live charter revenue provided by Ethra Invest.
The protocol separates governance from regulated vessel investments, with token holders able to stake their holdings for access to real-time fleet performance data and participate in governance decisions.
