SBI Holdings Acquires Coinhako, Gains Control Over Billions in Crypto Holdings
Japanese financial giant SBI Holdings has acquired Singapore-based cryptocurrency exchange Coinhako, gaining immediate access to its regulated crypto infrastructure and expanding its digital asset ecosystem beyond Japan.
Through the acquisition, SBI gains control over Coinhako's substantial cryptocurrency treasury, including more than 1.11 trillion Shiba Inu tokens valued at $4.62 million at current market prices. This represents a significant portion of Coinhako's total holdings, which are worth around $160.87 million.
SBI plans to leverage Coinhako as a gateway to expand its blockchain-based financial services across Southeast Asia, connecting the exchange's user base with products such as its yen-backed stablecoin JPYSC and tokenized real-world asset (RWA) offerings.
