Ethereum Foundation Unveils Ambitious Roadmap for Network Upgrades
The Ethereum Foundation has published a comprehensive roadmap for the future development of the Ethereum network. Dubbed the 'strawmap,' it outlines seven major network upgrades planned by 2029, with the primary objective of significantly improving transaction finality times.
The current slot time for block production on the Ethereum network is 12 seconds, but according to Vitalik Buterin, co-founder of Ethereum, this is expected to decrease gradually over the next few years. The roadmap envisions a reduction in slot times down to just two seconds, with corresponding decreases in finality periods.
The strawmap also emphasizes the integration of post-quantum cryptography and native privacy features, including shielded ETH transfers. These upgrades are designed to ensure the long-term security and scalability of the Ethereum network, which currently has a market capitalization of over $245 billion.
