Germany Dominates EU Crypto License Issuances Under MiCA

Germany is leading the way in issuing licenses under the European Union's Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCA), which takes effect on July 1. According to an interim register compiled by the EU's financial markets regulator, ESMA, Germany has approved 57 crypto-asset service providers (CASPs) under MiCA, representing about 23% of all licenses issued across the EU and EEA jurisdictions tracked in the register.

France is a close second, with 26 CASP authorizations, or around 11% of the total. This follows a recent surge in approvals by France, with five CASPs receiving approval between June 18 and June 22, more than any other jurisdiction in that window.

However, the rollout of MiCA licenses has been uneven across Europe, with some jurisdictions moving quickly while others are still absent from the authorization map. As of June 26, ESMA's interim register shows that Greece, Hungary, Poland, Portugal, and Romania have issued no MiCA licenses yet.
