NYSE Partners with Securitize to Develop Blockchain-Based Trading Platform
The New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) has made a significant move in its efforts to bring blockchain technology into traditional stock trading. The exchange has partnered with tokenization specialist Securitize to develop its Digital Trading Platform, which will enable the trading of tokenized securities on blockchain rails.
Securitize, backed by large asset managers like BlackRock and Ark Invest, will serve as a design partner for the project, focusing on how transfer agents operate when securities are issued and settled on blockchain rails. The firm is expected to be among the first firms eligible to mint tokenized versions of stocks and ETFs on the platform, subject to regulatory approvals.
This move comes as traditional exchanges like NYSE and Nasdaq are accelerating their tokenization efforts to bring around-the-clock trading and near-instant settlements to the equity market. The partnership aims to build new infrastructure for tokenized securities trading, which could potentially disrupt the current traditional exchange model.
