Meta's USDC Payouts Speed Settlement but Leave Creators Struggling with Fiat Conversion
The Crypto Padel League has launched its first season in London, but another significant development is taking place in the world of cryptocurrency. Meta's decision to pay creators in USDC (USD Coin) marks a milestone for mainstream stablecoin adoption.
However, this move also highlights a crucial challenge facing creators outside the US: turning USDC into spendable local currency without incurring significant fees and difficulties. The process involves converting USDC to fiat, which is a complex and time-consuming task due to fragmented liquidity, variable fees, and compliance issues across regions.
Meta's payout flow uses Stripe for infrastructure and tax forms, but creators must choose a supported network (such as Solana or Polygon) and use third-party off-ramps to reach a bank account. The bottleneck lies in the patchy liquidity, fees, and compliance friction across regions, not on-chain settlement.
Industry reports indicate that Meta is not providing a built-in fiat off-ramp, leaving creators to cash out elsewhere. A pilot program is live for selected creators in Colombia and the Philippines, with plans to expand widely by end-2026.
