Ripple Enters AI Payments Market with XRPL AI Starter Kit
Ripple has made a significant move to position its XRP token and stablecoin Ripple USD (RLUSD) in the payments market for AI agents. The company released a toolset called the 'XRPL AI Starter Kit,' which enables developers to build AI-powered payment systems on the XRP Ledger.
The toolkit provides access to XRPL data sources via MCP servers, wallet creation through Claude integration, balance inquiry, and payment functions. It also offers machine-to-machine payment support with XRP and RLUSD within the x402 framework.
Ripple's new initiative aims to enter the on-chain micro-payment market, which is currently dominated by dollar-based stablecoins. The company claims that XRPL can offer a more stable consensus infrastructure for high-frequency AI agent payments due to its 3- to 5-second transaction confirmation time and low fee structure.
However, the x402 mechanism still encounters difficulties in synchronizing on-chain transactions with web requests. This model faces some technical risks, but Ripple's approach also includes reducing the risks of running smart contracts.
