XRP Las Vegas Attendees Targeted by AI-Generated Romance Scammers
Crypto scammers have been targeting industry figures attending XRP's flagship event, XRP Las Vegas. According to a recent report, impersonator accounts on social media are using artificial intelligence to post fake photos of women generated with AI, making them look as though they were taken in front of the conference's official banner.
The scammers then approach attendees on social platforms, building trust by posing as romantic partners before coaxing victims into making cryptocurrency investments or donations. This tactic is known as 'pig butchering' and has been used to deceive investors in the past.
Investors who bought expensive tickets and traveled to the event may be attractive targets for impersonators, as they are likely to have a significant amount of money invested in cryptocurrencies. The report predicts that this incident will weaken investor sentiment and community trust, but notes that there is currently no data on the actual scale of losses.
