Bithumb Halts Deposits for 28 Base Network Tokens Amid Mainnet Issue
Bithumb, one of South Korea's largest cryptocurrency exchanges, has temporarily suspended deposits and withdrawals for 28 digital assets built on the Base network. The exchange cited an issue with the Base mainnet as the reason for the suspension.
The affected tokens include Aerodrome Finance (AERO), Virtuals Protocol (VIRTUAL), Brett (BRETT), and Kaito (KAITO). Trading of these tokens may still be available on Bithumb, but users cannot move funds to or from external wallets during the suspension.
This move by Bithumb highlights the operational risks exchanges face when integrating multiple assets from a single network. The Base ecosystem has experienced periodic technical challenges in the past, and this incident underscores the importance of network diversity and due diligence.
