A bizarre incident in Southern India has highlighted the darker side of crypto culture. A man named Arivu was paid 40 SOL, worth around $2,600, to get a meme coin phrase tattooed on his forehead.
The phrase, '$boutywork', contained a typo and was likely meant to be '$bountywork'. The mistake seems to have been intentional, as the person behind the bounty had repackaged it into a new token with the same name.
The $boutywork token quickly gained traction, reaching a market cap of around $373,000 within hours. Arivu was also rewarded with nearly $29,000 in transaction fees.
Critics argue that this incident showcases how easily speculative internet culture can turn into exploitation. The bounty platform, Pump.fun, has hosted other troubling tasks, including humiliating and dangerous challenges, raising concerns about financial desperation being turned into entertainment and profit.
