Solana's Delinquency Problem Exposed: 32 Incidents and $50 Million at Stake

The Solana blockchain has been touted as having '100% uptime' since March 2023, but a closer look at the data reveals a different story. A validator operated by Harmonic Major experienced 32 delinquencies in the past month, resulting in significant opportunity costs for delegators.

According to Slashr, a validator tracking service, Harmonic's node went dark for a total of 1,322 hours, missing out on valuable vote credits, inflation rewards, and MEV shares. The opportunity cost is estimated to be around $413 per hour, adding up to thousands of dollars in lost revenue.

The discrepancy between network-level uptime and individual node performance highlights the importance of considering the experience of delegators when evaluating a validator's performance. While Solana's cluster-level uptime may be 100%, individual nodes can still experience significant downtime, resulting in lost revenue for delegators.
