Ethereum Foundation Shifts Focus to Decentralized Finance
The Ethereum Foundation has announced a shift in its focus towards creating 'real DeFi' protocols that prioritize decentralization, security, and user control.
According to Vitalik Buterin, the goal is to create permissionless, open-source, private, and security-first global finance systems. These protocols should be able to function without relying on centralized control or intermediaries.
The shift in focus comes as institutional adoption of Ethereum-based financial tools grows, with banks, asset managers, and fintech firms exploring the use of Ethereum's blockchain for financial applications.
To achieve this goal, the foundation is emphasizing the importance of passing the 'walkaway test,' which means that a system should continue to function even if its original developers disappear or lose control.
