Kraken Breaks Down Barriers with Federal Reserve Payment Access

Kraken Financial, the banking arm of cryptocurrency exchange Kraken, has made history by becoming the first crypto-native firm to gain access to the Federal Reserve's core payment infrastructure. This significant breakthrough allows Kraken to settle dollar payments directly without relying on intermediary banks.

The approval was granted through a so-called master account from the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City, which grants direct entry into the Fed's payment systems, including Fedwire, a real-time gross settlement network that processes trillions of dollars in transfers each day.

While Kraken Financial will not receive the full suite of services available to traditional banks, this limited access still marks a major step forward for the industry. Other crypto firms, such as Ripple and Custodia Bank, remain in line for similar access.
