The documents, which were submitted to the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office on December 30, 2021, outline plans for online retail services featuring virtual merchandise.

According to the applications, Walmart is considering offering 'online retail store services featuring virtual merchandise' including electronics, furniture, toys, and household essentials.

The company's exploration of cryptocurrencies and NFTs extends beyond just digital transactions. The documents also mention providing a 'digital currency and a digital token of value for use by members on an online community via a global computer network.'
