Bitcoin Beats Real Estate: Billionaire Invests 70% in Crypto

Mexican billionaire Ricardo Salinas Pliego, founder and chairman of Grupo Salinas, is a long-term believer in Bitcoin. He's undeterred by the crypto market's recent slide and still thinks Bitcoin is a better investment than real estate.

To understand why Salinas is so bullish on Bitcoin, view it as a standalone asset class. Just as you'd allocate a percentage of your portfolio to stocks or bonds, you could also allocate one to Bitcoin. Salinas advises people to invest up to 70% of their portfolio in Bitcoin, significantly more than the recommended range for most investors.

The billionaire's faith in Bitcoin is based on historical precedent. In January 2016, Bitcoin traded for $400. If you wanted to buy a $1 million house, you'd need to spend 2,500 BTC. However, in 2026, Bitcoin now trades for $65,000. You now only need to spend 15 BTC to buy that same house.
