Africa's Cryptocurrency Market Sees Rapid Growth with $205 Billion On-Chain Value
Africa's cryptocurrency market has been experiencing rapid growth, with the region witnessing a 52% increase in year-over-year activity. According to on-chain data, Sub-Saharan Africa received over $205 billion in crypto value within the last 12 months.
Nigeria is leading the charge, accounting for approximately $92 billion of this total growth. The country's adoption rate has been fueled by real-world use cases such as remittances and stablecoin adoption.
Ripple's XRP is playing a crucial role in driving this trend, particularly in improving cross-border payments. With its On-Demand Liquidity (ODL) system, Ripple has already processed over $15 billion in global transactions. In Africa alone, XRP-based payment corridors are expanding across more than 27 countries, targeting the massive remittance market worth over $329 billion.
