US Seizes $500M in Iranian Crypto Assets Under Operation Economic Fury
The US government has launched a concerted effort to restrict Iran's access to financial resources through Operation Economic Fury. This campaign, which was ordered by President Trump in March 2025, has resulted in significant losses for Tehran.
As part of this operation, the US Treasury Department has seized nearly $500 million in Iranian cryptocurrency assets. According to Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, this includes $350 million in crypto assets and an additional $100 million that was frozen separately. The largest single crypto action within the campaign was a Tether freeze on two Tron addresses holding over $344 million in USDT.
The operation has also led to a significant decline in Iran's currency value, with the rial falling by 60-70% against the dollar. This economic pressure is expected to further restrict Tehran's ability to fund its military and proxy networks.
