Armstrong Dismisses Palihapitiya's AI-Driven Mining Warning

Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong has pushed back against billionaire investor Chamath Palihapitiya's warning that artificial intelligence (AI) demand threatens Bitcoin mining. Armstrong argues that the network's automatic difficulty adjustment keeps price disconnected from hash power.

Palihapitiya claimed that miners could earn 10 to 20 times more by selling their energy to AI operators instead of mining Bitcoin, calling this shift 'structural'. However, Armstrong believes that the network's ability to adjust its difficulty automatically ensures that mining shifts do not directly impact price.

The price of Bitcoin is currently near $64,397, down around 45% from its October 2025 peak. Despite this decline, its market capitalization remains at around $1.29 trillion, the largest of any cryptocurrency.
