Balance Coin Collapse Exposes Vulnerabilities in DeFi Platforms
A recent collapse of Balance Coin (BLC), an algorithmic stablecoin, has highlighted the vulnerabilities in decentralized finance platforms. On July 22, 2026, hackers exploited the governance structure of Balance Protocol, causing a dramatic drop in value to $0.0014, down from its original price.
The attack targeted the Median Oracle, which feeds Bitcoin price data into the system. When manipulated, it triggered unwarranted liquidations of collateralized vaults, draining approximately $912,000 to $915,000 from 42DAO, the governance entity responsible for Balance Coin.
This incident serves as a warning for stakeholders to prioritize stability and security over high returns in DeFi projects. Algorithmic stablecoins offer innovation but can easily fall prey to vulnerabilities, especially in their pricing structures.
