Ethereum Economic Zone Initiative Seeks to Unify Layer-2 Networks

Gnosis and Zisk, two companies focused on blockchain technology, have launched an initiative aimed at creating a unified environment for Ethereum's mainnet and layer-2 networks. Dubbed the Ethereum Economic Zone (EEZ), this framework is designed to reduce technical friction and risk between different platforms.

According to Gnosis co-founder Friederike Ernst, every new layer-2 network can be seen as an isolated silo that hinders seamless interaction with Ethereum's mainnet. The EEZ, on the other hand, seeks to create a shared infrastructure where transactions can be executed across various networks and mainnet.

The initiative has received backing from the Ethereum Foundation, which has co-funded it along with prominent decentralized finance projects like Aave and XStocks. This effort is significant as it addresses one of the key concerns regarding layer-2 networks: decentralization.
