Metamask Expands Crypto Card Services Across Latin America
Metamask has expanded its crypto-powered credit card services to 13 new countries in Latin America, allowing users to automatically convert and spend cryptocurrency at merchants affiliated with the Mastercard network.
The wallet announced that it is now available in Chile, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Guyana, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Suriname, and Uruguay, in addition to existing support for Brazil and Argentina.
Users can apply for the Mastercard-backed digital card, which converts cryptocurrency funds in their wallet to local currency upon each purchase, allowing for automatic settlement. The service also offers 1% cashback in mUSD, Metamask's own dollar-pegged stablecoin, on every transaction.
The move comes as crypto cards have grown to become a regular means of spending crypto worldwide, with transactions increasing by 2.7 times and deposits becoming more frequent, indicating that the product is transitioning from an early-adopter phase into a mainstream stage.
