Ethereum Co-Founder Unveils Comprehensive Protocol Overhaul 'Lean Ethereum'
Ethereum's co-founder Vitalik Buterin has unveiled 'Lean Ethereum', a comprehensive protocol overhaul that aims to transform every major component of the blockchain. The initiative, which spans three to four years, is comparable in scope to the landmark Merge transition in 2022.
The plan involves seven distinct network enhancements scheduled through 2029 and will fundamentally alter transaction validation processes, data storage architecture, and defensive measures against emerging quantum computing capabilities.
Buterin emphasized that 'almost every major piece of the protocol will be replaced,' while clarifying that current applications won't face mandatory modifications. The proposed dual-tier data storage system promises to reduce transaction costs by over tenfold for numerous tokens and decentralized finance applications.
