Metaplanet Reports Net Loss Amid Bitcoin Valuation Losses
Metaplanet, a Japanese company, has reported a significant net loss in the first quarter of fiscal 2026 due to heavy unrealized Bitcoin valuation losses. Despite this, the company's revenue and operating profit showed an improvement year-over-year.
The net loss of $725.6 million was primarily driven by mark-to-market adjustments tied to lower Bitcoin prices at the end of the quarter. However, the company's bitcoin income strategies and hotel operations contributed to improved operating performance during this period.
Metaplanet added 5,075 BTC to its balance sheet between January and March, increasing total holdings to 40,177 BTC as of March 31. This move reflects the company's continued focus on Bitcoin as a core treasury asset.
