Tempo, a payments-focused layer-1 blockchain, has unveiled a new feature called 'Zones' aimed at giving enterprises private transactions on public stablecoin rails. The feature is designed to target a long-standing issue for institutions: sensitive data being exposed on public ledgers.

The Zones are structured as parallel, permissioned chains attached to Tempo's main network, allowing companies to transact inside these environments while assets remain interoperable with the public chain and other Zones. However, critics argue that this operator-centric model introduces centralized trust assumptions, weakening both privacy and self-custody.
