Alabama Residents Reject Bitcoin Mining Center Over Concerns for Community
A proposed bitcoin mining center in rural Alabama is facing opposition from local residents who are concerned about its impact on their community. The project, which would be located near Somerville, has been met with resistance despite offers of payment and other benefits to nearby landowners.
Residents have expressed concerns that the facility would disrupt the peaceful atmosphere they moved to escape in larger population centers such as Huntsville. Homeowner Will Hutson described the area as 'beautiful, it's peaceful, it's country setting.'
The company behind the project, VoltCore, has offered each household a payment, a year of internet access, a natural gas line, and restoration of the land in exchange for their support. However, homeowner Lyndsey Hutson stated that 'everybody is extremely against this'.
