Coinbase Chief Legal Officer Paul Grewal Leaves Role Amid Regulatory Shifts
Coinbase's Chief Legal Officer Paul Grewal is transitioning to an advisory role at the exchange, effective July 31. In a recent post on X and LinkedIn, Grewal announced that he would step down as CLO after leading the company's legal team through a significant period of growth and regulatory challenges.
Grewal has been Coinbase's Chief Legal Officer since 2020, navigating the company through a major lawsuit with the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) in 2023. Although the lawsuit was later dismissed under the Trump administration, it had far-reaching implications for the crypto industry.
With Grewal's departure, Coinbase's Vice Presidents of Law, Molly Abraham and Ryan VanGrack, will take on new roles as General Counsel and Vice Chair, respectively. Abraham has pledged to 'take the helm' at the exchange's legal team.
