Yuga Labs Settles Bored Ape Trademark Dispute with Ryder Ripps

A landmark trademark dispute between Yuga Labs and Ryder Ripps has come to an end with the signing of a settlement agreement. The case, which began in July 2022, centered around Ripps' use of identical imagery from the Bored Ape Yacht Club NFT collection for his own project, RR/BAYC.

The dispute produced two significant federal court rulings on intellectual property protections for non-fungible tokens (NFTs) before both parties agreed to resolve the matter outside of trial. According to a court filing, Ripps has been formally barred from future use of Yuga Labs' imagery and trademarks.
