US World Cup Ticket Prices Skyrocket After Big Win Over Paraguay
The US men's national team made a statement in their World Cup opener against Paraguay on June 12, crushing them 4-1. The result sent ticket prices soaring for their next two Group D matches.
Resale prices jumped by around 25% in just 24 hours, reaching $1,129 to $1,137 as of June 13. This is up from a pre-match baseline of around $900, and it's still lower than the face-value prices for upper-deck seats, which were already near $2,000 in some cases.
FIFA has been experimenting with dynamic pricing for this tournament, which allows ticket prices to fluctuate based on demand. However, critics argue that this model is pushing out fans who are willing to pay what they consider reasonable prices.
The US team's big win also highlighted the role of blockchain technology in the World Cup, particularly through FIFA's Collect platform. This platform offers NFT-like digital collectibles that grant priority access to ticket purchases for fans who collect certain items.
