Bithumb Receives Temporary Reprieve from Regulatory Sanctions
A court in Seoul has granted a stay of execution on the sanctions imposed on cryptocurrency exchange Bithumb, providing temporary relief for the platform as it contests regulatory action. The Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) had ordered a six-month partial business suspension and levied a fine of 36.8 billion won ($24.6 million) due to alleged compliance failures.
The court's decision effectively pauses the enforcement of the disciplinary measure, which would have restricted new users from making deposits or withdrawals on Bithumb. The exchange is accused of violating South Korea's financial regulations, including failing to properly verify customer identities and block transactions that should be restricted.
