Ukraine Detains FSB Agent Planning New Attacks on Thermal Power Plants

The Security Service of Ukraine has made another significant arrest in its efforts to counter Russian espionage activities in the country. According to the SBU, a Russian FSB agent was detained near Kyiv while conducting reconnaissance missions on thermal power plants and Defense Forces bases.

During his surveillance, the suspect used his smartphone camera to film the energy facilities and their perimeters, pretending to be on the phone. He also drove around the area to identify the positions of the SBU units.

The agent had been receiving money from a handler in Russia via a crypto wallet for carrying out these reconnaissance missions. The communication between the suspect and his Russian contact took place through an anonymous messenger chat, where he was posing as someone looking for work in a retail chain.

The suspect is facing charges of treason under martial law, with penalties including life imprisonment and confiscation of property.
