DeFi's Centralization Risks Exposed by Recent Exploits
Curve's Michael Egorov has warned about the risks of centralization behind recent exploits in decentralized finance (DeFi). According to him, many incidents could have been prevented if vulnerabilities were addressed proactively.
In a hypothetical scenario, Egorov describes how a retail user deposits funds into Aave but is unable to withdraw them following an exploit. He emphasizes that systemic fragility is exposed and accountability across interconnected platforms is raised as concerns.
Egorov suggests that the industry should prioritize reducing single points of failure and better distributing trust where dependencies cannot be eliminated. He also advocates for stronger coordination, including shared security standards, clearer best practices for infrastructure configuration, and more rigorous code verification.
