Bitmine Boosts Ethereum Stakes Amid Security Concerns on Network

Bitmine, an associate of well-known cryptocurrency commentator Tom Lee, has made a substantial addition to its Ethereum holdings through staking. According to on-chain data, Bitmine has staked approximately $366 million worth of ETH, bringing its total stake to over $9.48 billion and accounting for 82.59% of its entire investment portfolio in Ethereum.

This move is seen as a reflection of continued confidence in the asset amid increasing price uncertainty. Analysts point out that such concentration of staking makes Bitmine one of the biggest institutional stakers of Ethereum, which can help to reinforce validator participation in the network and reduce circulating supply.

However, this growth in institutional staking has been accompanied by a concerning on-chain problem - hundreds of dormant wallets have been systematically drained, with an estimated total loss of around $800,000. The attackers appear to have compromised private keys or seed phrases, allowing them to sign transactions directly from the compromised wallets.
