Ukrainian Former Police Officers Accused of Crypto Extortion

A recent investigation in Ukraine has shed light on a disturbing trend of former security personnel targeting cryptocurrency holders in the region. According to reports, a group of four former Ukrainian police officers and one civilian with a prior criminal record have been accused of forming a criminal organization to kidnap and extort crypto entrepreneurs.

The suspects allegedly used their law enforcement training to track, kidnap, and detain victims using official police vehicles and encrypted messaging apps. They then used firearms and threats to force the victims to transfer digital assets and sign false debt documents.

At least four entrepreneurs have been identified as victims so far, but authorities suspect there may be more. The investigation is ongoing, with the suspects facing charges including kidnapping, extortion, and illegal deprivation of liberty.
