Florida Man Charged in Video Game Malware Scheme That Stole Over $220K in Cryptocurrency
A 21-year-old Florida man has been charged with helping to manage a malware scheme that infected video games and stole over $220,000 in cryptocurrency. The FBI says the malicious software was disguised as legitimate games on a major gaming platform and infected about 8,000 devices.
Prosecutors allege that the group used social media and bots to target crypto holders with the malware-laced games. Investigators traced crypto payments and online accounts to Zyaire Dontaevious Zamarion Wilkins of North Lauderdale, who is now facing federal charges.
