The co-founder argued that prioritizing throughput over security can lead to systemic risks that undermine decentralization. He pointed out that networks that optimize for raw speed often concentrate validator power or raise hardware requirements, resulting in a network that appears decentralized but functions like a permissioned system in practice.

Buterin highlighted concrete progress on the Ethereum roadmap, citing a 95% reduction in transaction fees on Layer 2 rollups over the past two years. He attributed this improvement to protocol-level upgrades rather than architectural shortcuts.
