Blockchain Bridge Vulnerability Exposed: Over $2 Billion in Fraudulent Tokens Minted
A recent exploit has underscored the vulnerabilities of blockchain bridges, allowing an attacker to mint over $2 billion worth of fraudulent Polkadot tokens on Ethereum.
The vulnerability was identified in Hyperbridge's Ethereum gateway contract, which enabled the attacker to manipulate permissions and generate wrapped DOT tokens without proper collateral backing.
Despite the significant scale of the mint, the attacker was only able to convert a small portion into real assets, highlighting the limited market for bridged tokens.
